I am hosting a fall block party and inviting my neighbors. I don’t know my neighbors. We have lived in this subdivision for 11 years and we are acquainted with one couple.
Oh, we do the “neighborly thing” and wave as we pass by as we are leaving our house or as we are going to the mailbox.
Sad, I know. I haven’t been a good neighbor. I can make excuses like, “I’m too busy” or “It’s hard to make relationships”, or “We don’t have anything in common” but the truth is I’m an Introvert who loves my time alone.
What changed? Why am I hosting a fall block party in the fall?
A Change of Heart
Well, my heart changed. God changed my heart and opened my eyes as I began to study and read the Scriptures. Words like pursue and welcome the stranger have made an impact on me.
Reading books like, “The Simplest Way to Change the World” and “Just Open the Door” really changed my thinking and encouraged me to change. God did not call us to sit in our comfortable homes to meet our own needs. He gave us our homes to use as a tool for evangelism to tell others about Him through inviting them into our imperfect lives.
What does a fall block party look like?
We are going to have games, races, and prizes.
Homemade Carmel Popcorn
Hotdogs with fixings
Getting to know you game
A variety of music from different genres since we have a diverse group of neighbors.
Getting Out of My Comfort Zone
It starts with a simple invitation. I will create a colorful invitation, knock on each neighbor’s door and invite them to the event. This is all out of my comfort zone but I’m ready for the challenge. I can’t wait for the event to get to know my neighbors.

My challenge to you is to get to know your neighbors. It doesn’t have to be a block party. How about an invitation to come over for coffee? I would love to hear how you stepped out of your comfort zone and invited your neighbor for coffee.
